Rebecca is really charming and helpful, always trying to do a nice thing for those she accommodates (i.e. home made salami, pasta, jam, wine, liqueur). As for the apartment it is the most upscale we have encountered, wonderful detail in the way it is finished (1st class bathroom), family heirloom bed… we were surprised to find such quality in a rental. Location… close to town but not too close. We were ecstatic to find NO NOISE, no noisy people, no noisy dogs (their 2 only bark when a real problem), no noisy highway. We would stay there again without hesitation… It’s a winner!

The house itself has been meticulously restored and reappointed and really does strike the perfect balance between authenticity and comfort. We easily took several day trips from the Brigolante as it is a gorgeous and swift trip to the highway. We also made a point of taking a few meandering ‘back road’ trips and were really pleased that we took the time to see the spaces in between the Umbrian hill towns. Our visit to the Brigolante was in October, but I would gladly visit any time of year. The farmhouse is easily reachable by car from Florence or Rome the same day as your arrival. The views on the farm with its vineyards, fields and poppies all make Brigolante a very special place to visit. Brigolante has it all… beautiful setting, peaceful location, spacious rooms, gracious, helpful hosts… all these things AND BIG FLUFFY AMERICAN TOWELS!!!! What more could you possible want? Reasonable prices? Farm fresh eggs and anything in the garden you want to pick fresh? A cozy fire with plenty of firewood available? An Italian mother-in-law who sends over a bowl of FRESHLY-MADE pasta? Well, Brigolante has all that too! Even though this is the first rental we have ever done in Italy, I think Brigolante will be the stick I measure all other apartments against. Our apartment, “Il Focolare” is a one bedroom apartment on the ground floor. It’s even handicapped-accessible! Once you enter the spacious foyer, just to the left is the huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub, and of course a bidet. And then there are those huge, fluffy, genuine American bath towels! Those waffled dishtowel things are awful! To the right of the foyer, the large room holds the kitchen across the back of the room, and a sofa bed opposite the waist-high fireplace. You can even grill in the fireplace! Our landlord, Rebecca, who is an American married to an Italian, was always there when we needed to ask a question, or two, or three. She helped us out with everything from Where to eat in Trevi to how can we find out about the train schedule to Naples? She was always there, but never in our way. We felt as if we were the only people there, even though there are 2 other apartments, in-laws, and various aunts and uncles living on Brigolante. The bedroom has a beautiful iron bed, with a queen-sized mattress, and a large armoire with an iron and ironing board hidden inside. There’s a washing machine in the kitchen and a clothesline out back…. We look forward to returning to Brigolante one day and do not hesitate to recommend it highly.

She welcomed us to the property, made sure that we were comfortable and then gave us advice as we required when we required. As non-Italian speakers we called upon Rebecca’s assistance for train bookings and she was pleased to oblige. The Bagnoli family were also very welcoming to us. Although our Italian speaking skills were limited to about twenty words, we communicated and were treated courteously. But beware – do not ask Mrs. Bagnoli to gather Rocket from the garden or supply zucchini – or else you will be given enough produce to set-up a market stall when all that was required were a few leaves of Rocket and one or two zucchini. Also beware of the Bagnoli wines, liqueurs and pasta – extremely addictive! The accommodation was quite adequate for our needs. The apartment we were in was spacious, the bathroom a joy to come back to after a day’s travelling. The kitchen only has a hob for cooking but we found that adequate – pasta and the occasional frypan meal (Australians can only go so long without lamb chops, mashed potato and beans!) Lesley and I spent some great hours tramping up and around the property, accompanied by the dogs – two ingratiating pups who took it upon themselves to protect us and show us the sights. Make sure you are there on a Sunday to experience the broadcast mass! Rebecca has a great story of why. You must have a car to make the most of the stay. (That’s not to say you would not have an enjoyable time simply staying at the farm and reading, having walks and relaxing – but we used it as a base for Umbria and a bit of Tuscany) The road/track to the property can be an experience but it only looks and sounds bad… Assisi is only about ten minutes away (five if you drive like an Italian, fifteen if you are of the quieter school of driving). Other places in easy reach that you shouldn’t miss are Gubbio and Norcia. Gubbio is a half day trip, while with Norcia take the whole day and go up to the National Park. Rebecca will tell you about the village up there and she is spot-on. But it does have a shop that sells nice ice creams. We took the train up to Florence and on another day down to Rome. We preferred to drive to the Assisi train station and leave the car there rather than face the fun and lunacy of the autostrada and then finding safe parking. If you get the right train, Florence is okay, but the time we had for Rome wasn’t long enough… I’m probably going on for too long, but the bottom line is that we’d go back in a flash and stay with Rebecca again if the chance was there – we didn’t get to all the places we wanted to and there are others we want to go back to. You might find cheaper accomm, you might find accomm with more facilities, but as I said – we felt welcome, the accomm was clean, comfortable and well maintained and the Bagnolis were great hosts.

The kitchenette is very well thought out. We used it every morning for breakfast and most evenings to prepare a light supper…. While we enjoyed the excellent accommodations at Brigolante, what really made our stay memorable was the hospitality of our host. Upon our arrival we found a large bowl full of walnuts and apples, along with a jar of homemade blackberry preserves and a cruet set with a bottle of their own luscious Umbrian olive oil on the table. Our welcome ‘aperitivo’ consisted of three delicious home made liqueurs and a grappa, of which we tried all. (The bay liqueur was our favorite.) On other evenings Rebecca presented us with a jar of home made pesto, a ball of fresh mozzarella di bufala, a plate of sliced home made salami and a fresh-from-the-oven loaf of focaccia, made by her mother-in-law. Even apart from this extraordinary generosity, Rebecca was the perfect host. She was very attentive to our needs and full of excellent information about what to see and do and where to eat, yet never overbearing. We looked forward to seeing her once or twice a day as if she were a good friend who lived next door. If ever we decide to visit Umbria again – and we have every intention to do so – we will make every effort to stay at the Brigolante. The location is unbeatable, the accommodations are excellent and Rebecca is simply wonderful.

Lesley and I spent some great hours tramping up and around the property, accompanied by the dogs – two ingratiating pups who took it upon themselves to protect us and show us the sights. Make sure you are there on a Sunday to experience the broadcast mass! Rebecca has a great story of why. You must have a car to make the most of the stay. (That’s not to say you would not have an enjoyable time simply staying at the farm and reading, having walks and relaxing – but we used it as a base for Umbria and a bit of Tuscany) The road/track to the property can be an experience but it only looks and sounds bad… Assisi is only about ten minutes away (five if you drive like an Italian, fifteen if you are of the quieter school of driving). Other places in easy reach that you shouldn’t miss are Gubbio and Norcia. Gubbio is a half day trip, while with Norcia take the whole day and go up to the National Park. Rebecca will tell you about the village up there and she is spot-on. But it does have a shop that sells nice ice creams. We took the train up to Florence and on another day down to Rome. We preferred to drive to the Assisi train station and leave the car there rather than face the fun and lunacy of the autostrada and then finding safe parking. If you get the right train, Florence is okay, but the time we had for Rome wasn’t long enough… I’m probably going on for too long, but the bottom line is that we’d go back in a flash and stay with Rebecca again if the chance was there – we didn’t get to all the places we wanted to and there are others we want to go back to. You might find cheaper accomm, you might find accomm with more facilities, but as I said – we felt welcome, the accomm was clean, comfortable and well maintained and the Bagnolis were great hosts.

We have only praise for our accommodations and especially for our host, Rebecca. Our apartment, La Loggetta, was spacious, tastefully furnished, well equipped, and extremely comfortable. The kitchenette is very well thought out. We used it every morning for breakfast and most evenings to prepare a light supper…. While we enjoyed the excellent accommodations at Brigolante, what really made our stay memorable was the hospitality of our host. Upon our arrival we found a large bowl full of walnuts and apples, along with a jar of homemade blackberry preserves and a cruet set with a bottle of their own luscious Umbrian olive oil on the table. Our welcome ‘aperitivo’ consisted of three delicious home made liqueurs and a grappa, of which we tried all. (The bay liqueur was our favorite.) On other evenings Rebecca presented us with a jar of home made pesto, a ball of fresh mozzarella di bufala, a plate of sliced home made salami and a fresh-from-the-oven loaf of focaccia, made by her mother-in-law. Even apart from this extraordinary generosity, Rebecca was the perfect host. She was very attentive to our needs and full of excellent information about what to see and do and where to eat, yet never overbearing. We looked forward to seeing her once or twice a day as if she were a good friend who lived next door. If ever we decide to visit Umbria again – and we have every intention to do so – we will make every effort to stay at the Brigolante. The location is unbeatable, the accommodations are excellent and Rebecca is simply wonderful.

Brigolante apartments… the apartment was all as stated. Rebecca is really charming and helpful, always trying to do a nice thing for those she accommodates (i.e. home made salami, pasta, jam, wine, liqueur). As for the apartment it is the most upscale we have encountered, wonderful detail in the way it is finished (1st class bathroom), family heirloom bed… we were surprised to find such quality in a rental. Location… close to town but not too close. We were ecstatic to find NO NOISE, no noisy people, no noisy dogs (their 2 only bark when a real problem), no noisy highway. We would stay there again without hesitation… It’s a winner!

I cannot imagine how our visit to the Brigolante could have been better. The farmhouse is situated in an amazingly beautiful land preserve outside of Assisi with Mt. Subasio majestically presiding. The house itself has been meticulously restored and reappointed and really does strike the perfect balance between authenticity and comfort. Our reception was warm and we felt carefully looked after, but never hovered over during our stay – again, a very nice balance. We easily took several day trips from the Brigolante as it is a gorgeous and swift trip to the highway. We also made a point of taking a few meandering ‘back road’ trips and were really pleased that we took the time to see the spaces in between the Umbrian hill towns. Our visit to the Brigolante was in October, but I would gladly visit any time of year. The farmhouse is easily reachable by car from Florence or Rome the same day as your arrival. I have visited Italy often over the last 12 years and my stay at the Brigolante is absolutely the most memorable and authentic Italian experience to date.

Brigolante is the ideal place to stay in Umbria. In planning our two week trip to Umbria, we booked our first few nights at Brigolante with the thought that we may find another place to stay once we were there. But once we arrived, we knew we’d want to stay there during our entire vacation. Luckily, we were able to do so with just minor adjustments.

Rebecca, the host, is extremely accommodating. She has a wealth of information about the surrounding areas, speaking both English and Italian. If you like to hike, there’s plenty to do around Brigolante but it’s also nice (and necessary) to have a car to go in and out of town and on day trips. I can’t imagine a better place to stay. It’s beautiful, clean and very comfortable.

The three Brigolante apartments are charming spotless and comfortably appointed with an Italian antique ambiance. In a rural setting they are an easy drive to all the hill towns of Umbria. The views on the farm with its vineyards, fields and poppies all make Brigolante a very special place to visit. We enjoyed our five day stay so much we returned May of this year to the hospitality of Rebecca who not only speaks English but is well informed on all that the area has to offer.

Brigolante has it all… beautiful setting, peaceful location, spacious rooms, gracious, helpful hosts… all these things AND BIG FLUFFY AMERICAN TOWELS!!!! What more could you possible want? Reasonable prices? Farm fresh eggs and anything in the garden you want to pick fresh? A cozy fire with plenty of firewood available? An Italian mother-in-law who sends over a bowl of FRESHLY-MADE pasta? Well, Brigolante has all that too! Even though this is the first rental we have ever done in Italy, I think Brigolante will be the stick I measure all other apartments against. Our apartment, “Il Focolare” is a one bedroom apartment on the ground floor. It’s even handicapped-accessible! Once you enter the spacious foyer, just to the left is the huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub, and of course a bidet. And then there are those huge, fluffy, genuine American bath towels! Those waffled dishtowel things are awful! To the right of the foyer, the large room holds the kitchen across the back of the room, and a sofa bed opposite the waist-high fireplace. You can even grill in the fireplace! Our landlord, Rebecca, who is an American married to an Italian, was always there when we needed to ask a question, or two, or three. She helped us out with everything from Where to eat in Trevi to how can we find out about the train schedule to Naples? She was always there, but never in our way. We felt as if we were the only people there, even though there are 2 other apartments, in-laws, and various aunts and uncles living on Brigolante. The bedroom has a beautiful iron bed, with a queen-sized mattress, and a large armoire with an iron and ironing board hidden inside. There’s a washing machine in the kitchen and a clothesline out back…. We look forward to returning to Brigolante one day and do not hesitate to recommend it highly.

We are pleased to be able to speak honestly to you about our Umbrian experience. From day one to day seven, Rebecca was a most charming and helpful host. She welcomed us to the property, made sure that we were comfortable and then gave us advice as we required when we required. As non-Italian speakers we called upon Rebecca’s assistance for train bookings and she was pleased to oblige. The Bagnoli family were also very welcoming to us. Although our Italian speaking skills were limited to about twenty words, we communicated and were treated courteously. But beware – do not ask Mrs. Bagnoli to gather Rocket from the garden or supply zucchini – or else you will be given enough produce to set-up a market stall when all that was required were a few leaves of Rocket and one or two zucchini. Also beware of the Bagnoli wines, liqueurs and pasta – extremely addictive! The accommodation was quite adequate for our needs. The apartment we were in was spacious, the bathroom a joy to come back to after a day’s travelling. The kitchen only has a hob for cooking but we found that adequate – pasta and the occasional frypan meal (Australians can only go so long without lamb chops, mashed potato and beans!)
