Nice post Rebecca, happy you did not mention the solution of Malls (which is actually one of the favourite by umbrians, how can they do it?!)=/), I would underline swimming pools, there are a lot of them, from the public ones to the private ones, more calm with few people. Keep going!
I was actually thinking about doing a post about the best public pools in Umbria. Might be just the perfect time to do some research!
I personally like the “stepping inside the nearest basilica” solution…that or fare un pisolino!
It seems we all become “believers” as the temperature rises ;)

As I love to chill out by the pool, you cannot get any better than the pool at Pietralunga in the Candeleto Sports Complex, it is so relaxing up in the hills surrounded by pine trees and birds chirpping, also through the trees one has a lovely view of the old town below. http://www.candeleto.it
